Holiday ThoughtsHoliday Thoughts . . .

The following is an excerpt from an anonymous letter submittedby an employee of the SCOHS:

It is a week before Christmas. I'm on my way home after helping theTherapeutic Recreation Services for one of the residents' Christmas dinners.Everything went well and we're told that many families appreciated thisevening. I get on the elevator, where there are 4-5 family members of oneof the residents . . . on their way home I suppose. They've just spent theirChristmas dinner with their son, father, brother, or husband. It's not theway it used to be I'm sure, but fortunately they look at it positively enoughto appreciate the time they got to spend together, as a family; positivelyenough to appreciate the efforts made by the staff. Not realizing that I'ma staff member, I overhear: "That was so nice. They're so dedicatedhere!" One of the sons sarcastically replies: "Yeah, yeah mom,all hospitals are dedicated." Mom firmly states: "No, here it'sdifferent." Enough said. The elevator doors open, I hold the buttonfor them, mom says "thank you," I say "you're welcome."

But what I really want to say is thank YOU, for making my eveningeven better. Thank you for realizing that the SCOHS is . . . well . . .special.
